First and foremost I am a foodie! I love really good food.
But aside from loving food, for 19 years I have been working with children with cancer. I am crazy passionate about Children’s Health. Since the time in 8th grade when my best friend was diagnosed with bone cancer I have watched and worked with children who’s health has been compromised in some way. As a mom I am passionate about all children and families being healthy so that they do not develop cancer or any other debilitating diseases.
I struggled as a teen with how to be healthy. The message I heard was that I was overweight; that I ate too much. I had poor self image that fed the cycle of emotional eating. I did Weight Watchers to no success in my teens and I did crazy fad diets and Jenny Craig in College. It was not until I was working with children myself that I began to understand the importance of what we put in our bodies but also the importance of self esteem and body image and its relationship to food. I was able to change the poor relationship I had with food in my young adult life into a healthy relationship as an adult.
As I took care of kids struggling to survive cancer, I became increasingly aware of chemicals in our foods and products we put on and in our bodies. I wanted something more for my patients, my family and my friends.I wanted to focus on the preventive side of health.
My journey led me to get certified as a Certified Health Coach in Integrative Nutrition. As a health coach I focus on the whole individual. Each person’s health is bio-individual; unique to themselves. I look at a person nutritionally as well as at the factors that play into health such as stress, relationships, sleep and happiness to name a few. As people started coming to me to learn about better nutrition and well being, people started to ask me about Essential Oils. I knew nothing about Essential Oils. I told people they should not use oils. I was blessed to have an old college friend educated me on Essential Oils. Being the major skeptic that I am, I was very hesitant. When I finally tried them I became a true believer in Essential oils for health and wellness. I had no idea how crazy passionate I would become about decreasing chemicals in the home and in our bodies. Essential oils was the natural fit for my mission of total health and wellness.
Between my Health Coach certification and my experience as a Pediatric Oncology nurse for 15 years I have a wealth of knowledge on the health of children and their families.
With the Whole table I want to help families be the best healthy individuals they can be. Healthy means something different for every person. For children to be healthy, the whole family needs to be healthy. Through moms and dads and kids themselves I hope to build a healthy and happier community.
